Worship

At S.C.C. we strive to reach out to God by making worship an authentic work of the people – inclusive & participatory.

Adherents are involved in the planning and leading of worship services – reading scripture, writing/reading prayers, preparing/serving The Lord’s Supper, playing instruments, involvement in drama, etc.

Fellowship

COFFEE TIME:  10:15 a.m. – Tea, Coffee & Snacks
Join us Sundays in the lower hall to visit over a beverage & snack before the worship service.

POTLUCK LUNCHES:
Visitors welcome! Gather in the lower hall on the 4th Sunday of each month (except Dec.) following the worship service.  Regular attendees happily share potluck items (soup/stew from fall-spring, and salads in the summer).  In June the monthly lunch takes place at a local park.

Children & Family

Children:  Worship & Play
We desire to provide kids with a safe, loving and fun environment.  Sunday classes take place 9:30-10:30 in-person in the lower hall (and via Zoom while COVID continues) for ages 3-12.   Adult volunteers have Covid-19 vaccination, and have had a Criminal Record Check.  There is also a nursery-room beside the sanctuary that parents with babies can use during worship services.

Saanich Community “Food Bank” Garden
Adults and children are welcome to participate during Garden workdays, Saturdays 9:30-11:30 from mid-May to Sept. Tasks include preparing the soil, planting, weeding and harvesting produce for the Mustard Seed Food Bank. saanichfoodbankgarden@gmail.com or www.facebook.com/SaanichCommunityFoodBankGarden

CARE Groups

CARE GROUPS are an important part of our daily spiritual walk, providing a nurturing place to ask questions, share concerns, pray, use your gifts to help others and be supported in the challenges of life.

Groups take place around greater Victoria – some meet weekly, others bi-monthly or monthly, Some groups gather via Zoom, or ‘safely distanced’ at the church.

  • Quilting/ComfortersMaking quilts, donated to MCC for refugees or emergencies around the world. See www.mcccanada.ca/get-involved/kits/comforters. Women & friends are welcome; gathering in the lower hall to make quilts (except in summer). Contact the office for details.
  • ‘Food Bank Garden’ project: Volunteer participants work from May-Oct. in our church garden – planting, nurturing & harvesting vegetables/fruit to donate via the Mustard Seed Food Bank to needy people of Victoria.  This project commenced in 2007 and works in conjunction with A Rocha Canada www.arocha.org/int-en

  • Men’s Breakfast & Prayer – Mondays at 8:00 am (approx. Oct.-June) via Zoom during Covid.
  • Bible and Book Studies: Meeting in homes around town to discuss books and/or scriptures with a focus on spiritual growth – these take place various days of the week, with most running from mid-Sept to May.
  • Refugee Resettlement: S.C.C. sponsored a refugee family in 2016 under the Canadian government’s blended visa program with the support of Mennonite Central Committee.  We are in the process of bringing a new family to Canada again with the support of M.C.C., and aiming for 2023 (or as soon as Malawi allows for their departure).
